Melissa & Elizabeth Baker This is a sisters' act, introducing, we hasten to add, two very talented siblings! While yet children passing time at the kitchen table, the girls' grandparents encouraged them to draw, thus planting the seeds that would flower later in their lives into a full-blown passion for art. Melissa and Elizabeth grew to love the animals on their family's dairy farm in southern Idaho. The ranching lifestyle gave them plenty of time and opportunity to observe and to study all of the animals on that farm.
Elizabeth encouraged her kid sister, Melissa, to experiment with her in the use of pencil drawings that mimicked painting with oil on a canvas.
Elizabeth soon mastered the skills of drawing, which have stood her in good stead when it comes to turning out detailed studies of horses, wildlife, and doing portraits. Her current work is inspired by her study of the relationships between technology and nature. Both girls are graduates of Eastern Washington University and proud to call Cheney, Washington, their home. They currently co-own and operate a small framing gallery and in it, display not only their own art, but also that of other local artists.
