Marti Bennett Marti writes, "I am a self-taught artist. I have had no formal art education. I began my artistic endeavors by using acrylics to paint miniature landscapes and wildlife on glass Christmas ornaments.
Later I discovered enamel paints developed for use in painting porcelain and glass. This led me to create designs for plates, vases, and a variety of glassware products.
I loved the way these transparent paints flowed on to a smooth surface, and began to expand my paintings to larger, flat pieces of plate glass, creating frameable pieces of art.
My roots are in Alaska, where I was born and raised on the North Slope. My work naturally reflects both my love of wildlife and my Alaskan heritage.
My husband is skilled at photographing wildlife and has captured animals in their native habitat in photographs I can readily use as inspiration for my paintings. I take particular pride in depicting wildlife subjects in a realistic fashion and natural setting, and I especially enjoy revealing the subtle effects that light and shade have on the mood of a painting."
